Engagement Photography in Bristol
Whether it’s a super-secret mission for me to capture the actual proposal, or a chance to get some nice photos and feel a bit more at ease in front of the camera – engagement photography in Bristol can be quite a fun little evening or morning adventure!
As a Bristol wedding photographer, I often join my couples before the big day for an engagement shoot, pre-wedding shoot, or couple shoot… whatever you want to call it! We’ll take about 90-minutes (I recommend allowing 2 hours.. just in case I get carried away!) to wander around an area of the city and capture some relaxed portraits. It’s usually best we do this on a weekday, to try and avoid bigger crowds, and depending on the time of year we’ll chat about the best time to meet to make the most of the light.
Frankie and Joe – Engagement photography in Bristol Harbour
I met Frankie and Joe outside the M Shed on Bristol Harbourside on a beautifully sunny spring evening. They chose to have their Engagement photography in Bristol in a place that really feels like home to them, so we could all relax and get to know each other before I photograph their wedding later this year. We couldn’t believe our luck with the weather, especially the beautiful sunset over the water which made for some magical evening shots. Here are just a few images to enjoy while I finish editing the full collection!
Both Frankie and Joe are engineers, so they loved the industrial, mechanical, and structural details of Bristol Harbourside. The cranes in the background and the huge iconic red doors of the M shed really gave a sense of place to their shoot.
We chatted as we wandered along, about a mile each way from M Shed to Underford Yard – with the evening being so mild I grabbed them an ice cream from a nearby van, and it was even warm enough to kick off their shoes and have a little splash in the water. They sat and enjoyed the views out across the water to the brightly coloured houses of Cliftonwood, while I captured them relaxing and smiling, without feeling under pressure to pose.
The hustle and bustle of the waterside, along with the interesting structures and colours of the surrounding area make the harbourside an ideal location for engagement photography in Bristol – particularly for Frankie and Joe, as they’d both had their graduation party on one of the boats we saw as we walked along. The kayakers, rowing boats, and even a friendly little dog are all featured in their photos!
As the sun began to set, sparkling over the water in the harbour, I took the opportunity to create some stunning silhouettes of Frankie and Joe – before leaving them to enjoy dinner at one of the harbour’s awesome bars. sat under the fairy lights. Can’t wait to see them both again soon, for the big “I DO”!
Jennie and Andrew – Bristol Harbourside & The Old Vic Theatre
We took a stroll along the old railway from the historic docks, past the M Shed with ever-present joggers and dog walkers to the amazing Old Vic theatre where Andrew works backstage. I was privileged to photograph them together on stage with the backdrop of ‘The Grinning Man’ production (the amazing set was designed by Jon Bausor). Thanks to Claire for her help with lighting.
