Wedding at the White Horse, Chilgrove

It would be hard to find a more lovely and creative couple than Helen and Duncan. So it was my absolute pleasure and fortune when they got in touch and asked me to photograph their wedding at The White Horse in Chilgrove. I’m always really excited when other creative professionals are getting married, but I must admit on this occasion I was in for a treat! Being incredibly nosy goes hand in hand with my documentary approach to image making (well that’s my excuse), so when I asked them what they both did I was thrilled to hear Duncan was not only passionate about photography, but an academic professional in the field! (Check out his awesome research work with The British Museum here). With Helen at the top of the vocals tree, courtesy of those nice people at RADA.

Their wedding day started with fun, apprehension and preparation with Gabi & I throwing ourselves in to mix. The White Horse have this amazing wedding tipi where everyone had gathered for their ceremony. They had filled the space with an absolute rainbow of coloured balloons. Once inside this amazing space their families and guests were truly spoiled with the most touching and emotional humanist ceremony (the speeches had me in tears too – que Gabi rolling her eyes) surrounded by their close family and friends.

Then it happened. “I’ve bought some smoke grenades” said Duncan. And what a brilliant idea it was! To accompany their rainbow theme (check out those bridesmaids dresses too), we ‘popped smoke’ and Helen and her girls played whilst we captured some hilarious moments. What a memory! After dinner, and don’t even ask me about the hot wax photograph, their wedding reception kicked off in the evening and it turned in to one of the most rocking parties of our year.
